Gary Brausen is a life long athlete, committed to physical fitness and wellness and never smoked.  In March of 2011, Gary was diagnosed with stage 3B lung cancer and was considered terminal by multiple oncologists.  He and his family were devastated.  After enduring surgery to remove his diseased left lung, 3 months of brutal chemotherapy and 7 weeks of radiation, by the grace of God, Gary beat all odds and is considered cured from the disease.

Since the beginning of his cancer journey, Gary has been passionate about helping others afflicted with this disease and paying his miracle forward.  He has since become involved with "A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation (abreathofhope.org), a foundation dedicated to raising awareness of lung cancer, to raising money for funding cutting edge cures and to helping patients and families afflicted with this disease.  He currently sits on the foundation's board and medical research teams as well as serves as an ambassador to patients and families coping with the disease.

In 2014, Gary, his wife Rosey, friends, and family  launched the first annual "Bike for Hope MN" event with all proceeds and profits going directly to "A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation".
